On Monday, the United States military selected around 2,000 troops for a potential deployment to the Middle East as it ramps up its efforts to assist Israel.

The move comes nine days after members of Iranian-backed Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas kicked off the latest round of fighting by massacring hundreds of civilians

According to the Wall Street Journal, the troops are currently stationed in the Middle East and surrounding areas, including Europe, and will not serve in combat roles.

They were selected from across all branches of the US military, however no members of the infantry have been given "prepare-to-deploy" orders.

While the Biden administration has expressed a desire to assist Israel, it has not specified exactly what would trigger the deployment of troops, or where they would end up. The Pentagon has hinted that the US would jump in with boots on the ground if Israeli soldiers enter Gaza via land.

Biden has been hesitant to promise troops, but routinely maintained that the US will "provide [Israel] everything they need."

"I don't think that's necessary," he said during a 60 Minutes interview that aired on Sunday, noting that Israel has "one of the finest fighting forces in the [world]."

National Security Council spokesperson spokesperon John Kirby echoed the president's sentiments, saying there are "no plans or intentions to put US troops on the ground to fight in this fight between Israel and Hamas."

Nearly 1,500 people have been killed in Israel since October 7, with Palestinian authorities claiming 2,700 deaths in Gaza during the same time period.

Following Hamas' surprise attacks, the Israeli Defense Force began a counteroffensive, targeting terrorists in Gaza.

A second front opened in the north, with missiles being launched into Israel from Lebanon by yet another Iranian-backed terrorist group, Hezbollah.

In Gaza and Israel, civilians have tried to flee from the war, however they continue to get caught in the crossfire.

Rumors of a ceasefire have been spread in recent days, however Israel has denied reports.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
